Steel life cycle – Hot-rolled strip (photo)

Hot-rolled strip

Staying at the top through innovation:
for voestalpine that is an integral part of its corporate strategy.

The long-term objective of our research and development sector (R&D) is to generate optimum customer benefit through innovative complete solutions, while reducing life cycle costs, and to achieve the best possible performance along the value chains. Our focus is on the development of innovative concepts for markets with the highest technology and quality requirements, especially in the mobility and energy sectors, which account for 62% of the Group’s revenue. The challenge is to actively collaborate in broad-based approaches to potential solutions and to integrate the two sectors.

In addition to further and new development of products and processes, our R&D activities are increasingly oriented toward the Life Cycle Assessment, i.e., looking at the entire life cycle of a product—from the sourcing of the raw material to the recycling or disposal of the product.
